SolidRun - HoneyComb LX2 Server - ARM server based on Cortex A72 with 16 cores

Over the past decade, ARM-based processors have dominated the mobile device market by offering lower cost, excellent wattage performance, efficiency, and the ability to control both hardware and software.

The existing server industry is dominated by Intel and AMD with the x86 architecture due to the ecosystem, hardware and software compatibility.

On the other hand, the demand for Arm-based servers is expected to increase in the coming years for several reasons:

  • Direct cost: reinforcement-based solutions tend to be much less expensive than their x86 alternatives
  • Efficiency: the architecture is more efficient in terms of energy consumption and can fit or be superior x86 in certain workloads and tasks, resulting in lower energy consumption and lower thermal management requirements.
  • Growing software community: There is a growing community that supports Arm-based servers and SoCs with the latest software tools and ecosystem.

SolidRun's 1U Dual Sled Server is designed to reduce rack footprint by integrating two computer units (HoneyComb LX2) into a 1U chassis.

HoneyComb LX2 is a server based on 16-core Cortex A72, which runs up to 2.2 GHz and consumes about 40W. It is packaged in a Mini-ITX form factor and offers extended connectivity, such as 10 x Gbps SFP + ports for SDN (up to 40GbE), USB 3.0, open PCIe slot for GPUs, as well as extended connectivity, 16 cores and up to 64 GB of memory

You can install and run any distribution based on Linux or BSD, VMWare ESXi on Arm or Windows 10 Enterprise on Arm.
