If you are looking for a way to test, without hassle, operating systems such as Windows 1.01 or 98, Linux 3.18 or 2.6, Kolibri OS, FreeDOS, OpenBSD, Solar OS or Arch Linux, you have come to the right place. From computer science professors or pupils or students, to IT archaeologists or just curious people, you have the opportunity to feel the, so to speak, medieval spirit of operating systems.

The project was posted for the first time on ghithub (see here) and then another programmer managed to create an application capable of working online. The project consists in creating an emulation of the architecture based on 32 bits capable of running the above operating systems, using the web browser and JavaScript and NodeJS technology.

Basically, you do not have to waste hours downloading and testing all kinds of images through the virtual machine, now there is a much faster possibility, which allows in a few seconds in your browser to run one of the OS mentioned above.

It is recommended to use an up-to-date browser, and if possible, a somewhat equipped computer. It doesn't matter if the testing is done on Windows, Mac, Ubuntu, Linux Mint openSUSE or any other GNU / Linux distribution, because this project works on any OS.

All the systems in the list below run smoothly, with the possibility to even play games or do various activities. However, it should not be overlooked that the browser also has its limitations. Also don't forget to lock your cursor using the buttons provided by the application, with the possibility to unlock it later with a simple and magical Esc. Lots of settings are available in addition.

You can test the following distributions:

Windows 98

Linux 3.18

Linux 2.16

KolibriOS

FreeDOS

Windows 1.01

ArchLinux

Solar OS

OpenBSD
