PHP 8.0.0, Alpha 1. This starts the PHP 8.0 release cycle. The next version will be Alpha 2, scheduled for July 9, 2020. Because PHP is open source software, developers are free to download and compile the source code.
JIT (Just-in-Time) will be in version 8.0.0 and will be the main feature. JIT is a way to optimize the code is compiling over time. This popular method is already used by Java Virtual Machine (JVM), the popular V8 JavaScript VM from Google, and HHVM.
