Corona-Warn-App - Open Source project that notifies users if they have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2

The Corona-Warn application is an application that helps track the chains of SARS-CoV-2 infection (which can cause COVID-19) in Germany. The application is based on technologies with a decentralized approach and notifies users if they have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2. Transparency is essential both to protect end users of the application and to encourage adoption.

The exposure notification framework (by Apple and Google) on a mobile device transmits a proximity identifier continuously, while regularly scanning the identifiers of other phones that use Bluetooth Low Energy technology and store the identifiers locally. Identifiers are valid for only 10-20 minutes and are cryptographically derived from temporary keys that change every 24 hours.

The application was downloaded 6.5 million times in the first 24 hours.

The Corona Warning app was the most downloaded free app for four weeks

It is the largest open source project ever implemented in Germany on behalf of the federal government

Two of the most important priorities are interoperability with Corona applications in other countries - especially in the European Union. The Robert Koch Institute recently announced that the Corona Warn app can also be downloaded from app stores in all EU member states, as well as in Norway, Switzerland and the UK.

In addition to German and English, there will be a Turkish version that will be available in late July. Other languages ??such as Russian, Romanian, Arabic and Polish will follow.
