The Linux Foundation announced today that it will host the Cloud Hypervisor project, which provides a virtual machine monitor for modern cloud workloads. Written in Rust with a focus on security, features include CPU, memory and hot plug device; support for running Windows and Linux guests; downloading the device with vhost-user; and a minimal and compact footprint.
The project is supported by Alibaba, ARM, ByteDance, Intel and Microsoft and is represented by founding members including Arjan van de Ven, Intel Fellow; K. and Srinivasan, Distinguished Engineer and VP at Microsoft; Michael Zhao, ARM personnel engineer; Gerry Liu, senior personnel engineer at Alibaba; and Felix Zhang, senior software engineer at ByteDance. The initial focus for the Cloud Hypervisor project will be modern security and operation for the Cloud.
