Endless OS 3.2 Review - Offline distribution, preloaded with over 100 applications

The Endless OS operating system is a free, easy to use operating system, preloaded with over 100 applications , which makes it useful from the moment you start it. Endless approaches Linux in a totally different dimension. It's intuitive and yet quite different. The developers have launched a distribution targeting mainly developing countries and also computers that do not have or have limited access to the internet. So, even without the internet, you will have access to things like Wikipedia.

The goal is to provide an operating system that comes with everything you need. Let's take a look at what makes OS Endless different, intuitive and so powerful. Endless OS uses OSTree to manage a read-only file system and uses Flatpak to deliver and update applications.

There are two main ways to get Endless OS. - Windows users can download Endless Installer, which will download ISO and then install next to Windows so you can choose between Windows and Endless at startup. The installer can also create a live USB interface, with which you can test Endless or install it on any other computer.

- Alternatively, OS Endless is also available as an ISO image, you can download it and create a USB stick to try a live version of the Endless OS system or install it on compatible computers.

Download Endless OS 3.2

Endless OS is also available in 2 main versions. A basic version and a complete one. - The basic version of the endless OS system has a size of about 2 GB for download and you can copy it to an 8 GB USB memory drive. The basic version of the Endless application comes with only a few pre-installed applications and is recommended for computers that will have internet access. Once you have installed Endless, you can open the Application Center, where you can browse, download and install over a hundred free applications. - The full version, on the other hand, has about 16 GB, which contains over a hundred applications already pre-installed. The full version requires 32 GB of disk space for installation. If you install Endless on a computer that has limited or no internet connection, it is best to get the full version. First impressions Distro

- At startup, you will be asked to configure the system with the usual language, time zone and user account. - The Get Started application will help you enter the basics needed to make full use of this distro. Things like adding new applications, documents and files and how to add accounts.

Feel like Android - The first thing that came to mind when I booted into Endless OS is that it feels like Android. The look is quite clean and gorgeous. The desktop environment is a highly modified Gnome DE. If you click the "More applications" desktop icon or the quick launch icon, you will see all installed applications. You can search in local content when you are offline or on the internet when you are online.

Over 100 offline applications - Endless has over 100 applications available for users working offline. Applications available on Endless include games, productivity software, reference materials such as Cooking, Agriculture, Health, Travel and educational materials such as an Encyclopedia. Includes LibreOffice suite, GIMP, Encyclopedia, Tux Math, 3D CAD, MineTest and more.

Offline Internet Content - You also have over 50,000 Wikipedia articles, video lessons and applications on a range of topics. Developers try to provide the kind of information that is usually available online that is essential for most academic purposes. All this is available if you choose the full version during the download, but if you have chosen the basic edition, you can install the applications in the App Center (with an internet connection).

Restricted to the Application Center - You may not install applications other than what is available in the App Center. Even if it is based on Debian, you can install applications using apt-get. The terminal is even disabled by default. There is a way to install packages using apt-get, but if you want to do this, Endless is probably not for you.

Online content - Endless OS contains a package with so much content, because it is addressed to users who do not have internet. But when there is access to the internet, there is more access to content, including CodeAcademy and more.

Multimedia support - Endless OS 3.2 comes pre-installed only with free video codecs such as OGG Vorbis (.ogg), MP3 (.mp3), VP8 / VP9 (.webm) and PCM (.wav). On the other hand, some non-free video formats are not installed, including .mov, .mp4, .avi and .divx (H.264 and AAC), the latter meaning sites with HTML5 video and audio content such as Netflix and Youtube. Fortunately, Google Chrome is pre-installed, which means that Netflix and Youtube and other sites should work fine. The problem occurs when you have files offline in any of these formats. The solution? Pay for the ability to download and install codecs.

Endless OS is something completely different from most Linux distributions. It's not for regular Linux enthusiasts, but rather for developing countries, for people who don't have access to the Internet, and for people who don't want or need the normal control or power offered by most distributors. With an essential experience, quite simple, easy to use. There are even Endless mini-PCs that come with this distro.
