How can you feel the simple, efficient, fast Linux spirit

Installing a GNU / Linux distribution is a breeze. Anyone who has ever installed the Windows operating system can easily install a GNU / Linux distribution. The user, if he decides to make the transition from Windows to Linux, has a choice, because there are a multitude of GNU / Linux flavors (distributions), and one for sure is to his liking. First of all, however, the spirit of GNU / Linux must be discovered. How do you do that?

The most popular GNU / Linux distributions are Ubuntu, Linux Mint, openSUSE, Fedora, Manjaro, Voyager, and for these, for a start, we recommend them.

- Get information as a professional about the distributions you want to test or install, ask questions on forums or Facebook groups, enter into dialogue with the community.

- Choose a well-known, appreciated distribution that addresses beginners. The choice must be made according to the possibilities of the computer and your needs

- In order to be able to install / test the chosen operating system, you need its .iso image, an image that can be downloaded directly from the distribution website or through pentruprieteni.com. You can opt for torrent or classic download.

- Choose LTS versions

- Get a DVD or USB stick, because on these media you will burn the .iso image

- Don't forget to take all the data you have on your hard drive to external or cloud storage media. If you are a beginner, the risk of permanently deleting everything you have on your hard drive is quite high due to lack of experience. To drastically reduce this risk you need to be informed about how to install.

Ways you can feel the spirit of a GNU / Linux operating system (Ubuntu, openSUSE, Linux Mint, etc.)

Virtual Installation

This should be the first step in testing a distribution. To determine which operating system suits you best, download the images from as many as possible and install them, one by one, in the Virtual Machine, this is the only way you will be able to get an idea of ??what awaits you.

Testing in the Live DVD or Live USB module

Most GNU / Linux based operating systems have this feature. In essence, the system does not need to be installed for testing, it runs directly from USB or DVD. After burning the .iso image to DVD or installing it on the USB stick, restart the computer and boot from either the DVD or the USB stick. In a few seconds, depending on the power of the computer, the operating system will load and be perfectly functional. Basically, this is the most realistic way to test a Linux operating system.

Installation with Windows

Without any problem, Linux can be installed on a separate partition on the same hard drive that Windows is installed on. The rule is that the GNU / Linux distribution will be the last one installed, and after the computer has started you can, without problems, at boot time, choose which operating system you will enter.

installation instead of Windows / all hard drive

This step involves deleting Windows and installing the operating system on your entire hard drive instead of Windows. It is a radical measure that you will reach after a period in which you will test the two operating systems in parallel and you will discover that Linux moves faster, is friendlier and more tolerant with your computer than Windows.

...Good luck!
