Finnish application Koronavilkku Covid-19 - open source solution under public license of the European Union

The Finnish application Koronavilkku Covid-19 has been declared an open source solution under a public license of the European Union (EUPL). Koronavilkku software is developed by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitos, or THL), together with software development companies in the country.

„.... will allow the independent evaluation of the functionality and security of the system and the use of the source code. Open source is a modern way to develop and distribute software. Once the software code is shared for everyone, possible software errors can be found and corrected quickly. A mobile contact tracking application that is used voluntarily and in compliance with data protection legislation can help stop the chains of infection caused by coronavirus. The application will allow people to participate and influence the prevention of coronavirus infections and protect the health of themselves and their loved ones , says Aleksi Yrttiaho , Director of Information Services at THL.

The Koronavilkku suite consists of a backend application plus smartphone applications for iOS and Android operating systems.
